Baker Environmental Lining Services Limited operate under a stringent Occupational Health & Safety Policy, having gained OHSAS 18001 Certification. This Management System has been implemented as part of our risk management strategy to address changing legislation and protect our workforce.

This Certification promotes a safe and healthy working environment by providing a framework that allows us to consistently identify and control our health and safety risks, reduce the potential for accidents, comply with legislation and improve overall performance.

Training & Documentation

We have a NEBOSH trained Health and Safety Manager, who compiles our health and safety documentation. Our staff are City & Guilds Confined Space trained, having also received full BA and Rescue training. Our operatives are also First Aiders/Appointed Persons, PASMA trained and hold CSCS and UK PIA Health & Safety Passports. We hold numerous other training certificates relating to our work activities and are committed to ongoing training. We provide refresher training in aspects such as Asbestos Awareness, COSHH, Working at Height and Environmental Awareness.

A full technical site survey is carried out upon receipt of order to identify health and safety issues; and a comprehensive Method Statement, Risk Assessment and the relevant COSHH information are supplied before commencement of any project.

As part of our continued commitment to the health and safety of our employees, we have enhanced our Company Health Surveillance Programme by arranging periodical medical screening for our site operatives. Tests carried out by a medical professional include general health, fitness for entry into confined spaces, spirometry, skin condition and audiometry testing. We have always had our own monitoring procedures in place as a “first tier” to health surveillance, and indeed have an exemplary employee health record. As a Company we strive to attain the highest levels of health and safety, even when certain aspects are not mandatory, and we consider professional health surveillance to be best practice for our Company.

SafeContractor and CHAS

As part of our ongoing safety initiative we have, for the third year running, achieved accreditation to the SafeContractor Scheme. We have also received full accreditation this year to the CHAS scheme. These Schemes are designed to help industry improve its safety record. They recognise very high standards of health and safety practice amongst UK Contractors who have undergone a lengthy vetting process.

The Scheme assists major companies from several key sectors as they can engage Contractors from the list of registered members, safe in the knowledge that they have excellent health and safety procedures and a good track record for safe practice.
